Description

Pé Frank/Zoo. Original drawing illustrating the nude heroine Manon in 5 different poses. Very fine, delicate work on brown paper. Graphite and watercolor. Signed. TBE+. 50 X 35 cm Frank Pé (1956) studied visual arts for three years at the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels, and published his first "Carte blanche" in SPIROU in 1973, before tackling an exotic adventure story entitled "Comme un animal en cage", based on a script by Terence (Thierry Martens), the editor-in-chief at the time. He contributed illustrations to the "Nature-Jeunesse" section and created the character of "Broussaille" to bring his own vision to life. A double of his creator, Broussaille soon became a comic-book hero in his own right. The series won a dozen prizes and awards. At the same time, from 1981 to 1986, Frank developed the character of "L'Elan" in mini-strips. For Editions Delcourt, he designed and illustrated with Franquin, Hausman and Cabanes, to name but a few, the book "Entre Chats" dedicated to these cheerful felines, in 1989. Passionate about nature (he has bred over 50 species of reptiles, including 16 crocodiles, and owns a botanical garden) and painting, Frank, with scriptwriter Bonifay, composed the "Zoo" trilogy for the prestigious "Aire Libre" collection, which proved a great commercial success. Between 2020 and 2023, the 2 volumes of "La bête", based on Franquin's Marsupilami character, were also a critical and commercial success...
