JF Charles/India Dreams. Original drawing illustrating the heroine in the bath. Beautifully executed with an inimitable atmosphere for this accomplished composition. Graphite and watercolor. Signed. TBE+. 40 X 30 cm Jean-François Charles was born in Belgium in 1952 and began his training at the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts, drawing caricatures. He contributed to "La Libre Belgique" and the "Nouvelle Gazette" under the pseudonym Bof. In 1975, he worked for "Spirou" magazine, then for Averbode Editions, where he illustrated several children's magazines. In 1978, he met scriptwriter Jan Bucquoy, with whom he worked on Le Bal du Rat Mort, published by Michel Deligne in 1980. In 1991, he began his successful Fox series, scripted by Jean Dufaux. In 2001, he signed Le Météore, volume 3 of the Décalogue, scripted by Frank Giroud, and published Esquisses Toiles the same year, a book featuring over a hundred previously unpublished drawings and sketches based on texts by Paul Herman. Also in 2001, he debuted his successful new series India Dreams (10 volumes) with Casterman, scripted by Maryse Charles, and in 2007, War and Dreams with the same publisher. In 2010, he returned to drawing with the Ella Mahé saga, which he also scripted with his wife Maryse Charles.
