Description

Beuriot/Voltaire. Original drawing of a large box from the album. Graphite and watercolor, circa 2018. Signed. Very fine quality of execution. TBE+ A4 format Jean-Michel Beuriot (1961) was born in Mons. He took his first steps in the art world as an illustrator and poster artist. Fascinated by Hergé, Jacobs, Giraud, Morris, Hubinon... he dreamed of comics, and the short-lived successor to Tintin, Hello Bédé, offered him a chance at the dawn of the 1990s. Based on a script by Philippe Richelle, he set the scene in Berlin before the blockade. His passion for adventure then led him to Vécu, the magazine of historical comics, where he signed Rebelle : le bruit des bottes in 1992. He then joined the editorial team of the prestigious magazine (À SUIVRE) with Philippe Richelle. Their album Belle comme la mort met with unexpected success. The duo embarked on the Amours fragiles saga, which went on to win numerous awards. But their greatest accolade to date remains the Prix Becker, François Truffaut, Alfred Hitchcock... Jean-Michel Beuriot has developed a personal realist aesthetic imbued with meticulous elegance. His album on the life of Voltaire, published in 2019, is a real tour de force, requiring considerable research to portray Voltaire in his own time. Beuriot applied the colors directly to the original plates, which were then scanned to include the "bubbles" and layout. It took no less than 3 years to complete.
