Linthout/Urbanus. Original drawing created to promote the new series of albums and published in TV Express magazine in 1993. Rare. India ink and watercolor. TBE+. Quality frame included: 23 X 23 cm Willy Linthout (1953) is a Dutch-speaking Belgian comic book writer and cartoonist. He has also used the pseudonyms Willy Ribbonwood and Rib. Willy was a comic collector before creating the character Urbanus, named after the comedian of the same name, on whose life he is loosely based. The first album appeared in 1983. The series quickly became one of the most popular Flemish comics. The series is known for its black comedy and satire. He also worked on the comic strip Fanny et Cie. In 2004, he created the script for the Roboboy series for Luc Cromheecke in Spirou until 2007. In 2007, after his son's suicide, he wrote and drew the graphic novel Les Années de l'éléphant, which was nominated for numerous international prizes and won the Adhémar de bronze, the most important prize for Flemish comics. In May 2022, Linthout announces the end of his Urbanus series, after drawing it for almost 40 years and producing 201 albums. After that, he will devote himself to the De Familie Super series [The Super Family] from 2022, with Ann Smet as co-writer and Steven de Rie as illustrator.
