This rare crest mask evokes projecting horns and a dolphin's tail, embodying the message from the sea, and owes its shape to this mythical animal that captured boats. The Tonkongba mask appears on important occasions and is a historian's mask, recounting village memories and traditions. This crest mask is one of the Baga people's most sacred creations. H. 57 cm ; L. 18 cm. Provenance: former collection of sculptor Berndt Helleberg (1920-2008), Sweden.
