Description
FLEMISH OR ENGLISH SCHOOL (17th century) "Portrait of a gentleman", 1640 Oil on canvas. It could possibly be a portrait of Sir John Coke (1563-1644), Secretary of State of King Charles I of England, which would justify the person portrayed wearing a medallion with the effigy of the English monarch. As indicated by the inscription located at the top left "AETATIS SUAE 78 Aº 1640", the sitter was 78 years old in the year 1640, when the painting was made. Measurements: 118 x 97 cm.
