From the library of a famous French opera singer and bibliophile. Full garnet morocco with rich gilded decoration on spine and boards, false ribbed spine highlighted with cold fillets alternating with gilded fillets and roulettes, morocco title-pieces, gilded fleurons, boards decorated with a triple neo-classical-style frame alternating with gilded fillets and roulettes and cold roulette, a diamond-shaped cold plate with palmettes and large umbilicus. palmettes and large umbilicus in the center of the boards, gilt fillet on the edges at the corners, gilt roulette with palmettes framing the inside of the boards, marbled paper endpapers. First edition (originally published in 12 parts between 1843 and 1844) of this handsome album devoted to the great operatic successes of the period, featuring 24 original black lithographs, hors texte, engraved after drawings by Achille Devéria or Célestin Nanteuil, among others, but also by Baron, Challamel, Deshays, Français, Lépaulle, Lormier or Mouilleron. Each lithograph, with caption, depicts actors or scenes from the plays, and is accompanied by a text on the opera in question. -de MERCEY, Frédéric Bourgeois (1805-1860). TYROL TRENTE and INSPRUCK.
