ATTRIBUÉ À LORENZO BARTOLINI (1777-1850)

Lady's left hand in carved white marble. The hand is adorned with a bracelet of confronted snakes set with a precious stone, resting on a small bouquet of flowers and resting on a rectangular entablature. A large stylized peony stands at the wrist. Engraved on the base: A son bien aimé cousin Victor Morel / Charles Cerneau reconnoissant / Souvenir d'Italie / 1849. Florence, 19th century. Height: 8 cm - Width: 29 cm Depth : 11.5 cm (Very good overall condition, minor chips) We know of several female hands by Bartolini, all unsigned but sometimes bearing autograph inscriptions by the Florentine artist. According to the documentation, Bartolini worked from casts. He sculpted the hands of Élisabeth Gabrielle du Roux, Countess de La Rochefoucauld, Madame Thiers (now in the Dosne Foundation), and the Napoleonic Museum in Rome holds those of Princesses Charlotte and Mathilde Bonaparte [MN 977 and MN 1046].
