GUITARE «À LA SAINTE CÉCILE»

maple body and spruce top, tight grain, rosette and chevron purfling. Label: "F. Breton breveté de S.A.R. Me la Duchesse d'Angoulême à Mirecourt 18(...)". Mirecourt, luthier Joseph-François Breton (1763 - 1837). The back of the instrument is entirely painted in black, gold and green monochrome with a representation of Saint Cecilia, patron saint of music, playing the harp among the instruments, looking out over a cloudy landscape between two columns. It is surmounted by draperies and trimmings. The paving reads "Ste Cécile". Early 19th century, circa 1815. Body: 38.9 cm - String: 69.5 cm (Restored at least twice; two labels attesting : Julian Gomez Ramirez in Paris in 1931 and J. Garcia in 1987)
