Chapeau-bicorne de Suisse, black taupe felt edged with silver passementerie braid, tricolor cockade and six-twisted silver ganse held by a checkerboard-stamped button, pleated satin inner cap and black leather sweatband, wear, worn/insulated headdress, France late 19th/early 20th century. The Swiss was a church employee responsible for maintaining order during religious ceremonies; the function disappeared in the immediate post-war period.

France, 2nd World War. Historical memories of Brigadier General Paul CIAVALDINI (1882-1965), appointed Brigadier General in 1939. His Polytechnique student's bicorne. In black taupe felt edged with black silk braid decorated with oak leaves. Flat gilded brass band held by a small module button stamped with the École Polytechnique motif in gilded brass and tricolor cloth cockade. Black silk inner cap and wide black squared leather sweatband. White reception markings on the bottom of the cap, worn and illegible. Worn. Comes in its black lacquered wooden carrying case. (Wear and minor wear, the lock of the transport box damaged. Fairly good condition).

France, Third Republic (1870-1940). Képi, model 1919, for a non-commissioned officer in the 13th Dragon Regiment. Stiff carcass, scarlet wool cap, black wool headband, black cordonnet and soutache. Body number embroidered with silver cannetille. Leather visor with leather trim. Yellow satinette inner cap and light brown leather sweatband with metal "LP" monogram letters. Worn. (Wear and minor wear, sweatband cut on rear edge. Fairly good condition).
