GRAND «CLIPEUS» À LA TÊTE DE JUPITER-AMMON

in carved violet breccia marble. The face of Jupiter-Ammon with large emblematic ram's horns, three locks on the top of the head, eight long sinuous locks on the beard. Circular frieze of acanthus leaves, a carved foot in the lower part adorned with a large water leaf. Italian work inspired by an oscillum from the 2nd century A.D. Height: 83 cm - Diameter: 65 cm Depth: 15 cm (Wear, very good overall condition) Our sculpture is an enlarged version (with a few variations) of the main face of the oscillum currently in the Museo Maffeiano in Verona, Italy [Arachné ID: 1107072].
