Description

CIRCULAR TRIPOD GUERIDON in chased, gilded bronze, with sinuous uprights decorated with ribboned rushes joined by a brace, topped by sheep's heads supporting a frieze of openwork interlacing, and resting on hooves on loaves. Louis XVI period Flowered alabaster double top. 73 x 61 cm (restorations, accidents) Please note. This model of pedestal table is representative of the return of the taste for antiques in vogue during the second half of the 18th century and under the Empire. This type of furniture played a major role in the development of French savoir-faire abroad, particularly in Russia, where a pair of similar pedestal tables can still be seen today in the Pavlovsk Palace. The architect Andrei VORONIKHIN (1759-1814) was largely inspired by this type of furniture, which was later designed by Friedrich BERGENFELDT (1768-1822). This model is also comparable to the granite-topped pedestal table that decorated the Emperor's Tuileries apartment, now in the Château de Malmaison.
