Jean-Martin Schiler, known as SCHÜLER, master cabinetmaker, June 27, 1781 HALF-MOON CHEST OF DRAWERS in amaranth, sycamore and rosewood veneer, with amaranth, sycamore and rosewood marquetry, it opens with two drawers and two side panels. Richly decorated with musical trophies and utensils. The uprights are simulated fluted. Elegant ormolu ornamentation, such as clasps and foliate escutcheons. On tapered legs. Louis XVI period. Jurande hallmark (Restoration to a corner of the top, some scratches) A Gateleg mahogany table stamped "Canabas" for Joseph Gengenbach, Louis XVI period, 18th century height 73 - width 73 - depth 65 CM - H. 28,7 - W. 28,7 - D. 25,6 IN. Joseph Gengenbach, known as "CANABAS", was a cabinetmaker who received his master's degree in 1766. Canabas is one of the few cabinetmakers to use mahogany almost exclusively. Indeed, the use of mahogany in cabinetmaking became widespread in France from the 1760s, notably in workshops such as that of Jean-François Oeben.
