Description

PAIR OF SILVER FLAMPS on a square, canted base, underlined by a frieze of foliage and medallion profiles, stamped with two coats of arms, one surmounted by a count's crown, the second by a helmet. The umbilicus is decorated with foliage and fleurons on an amati background. The baluster shaft is chiseled with antique-style male and female profiles, alternating fleurons and crosses, on an octagonal knot. The binnacles are plain and decorated with crosses. Rennes 1712 -1714 (letter K), Master goldsmith: Joseph CAILLEAU (1699-1734). Received Master in Rennes in 1699, gave up his mark in 1734, but continued to work for the Rennes chapter. Height: 22.4 cm Weight: 548 g and 583 g (1.131 kg) (one Fut distorted, base slightly deformed, restorations) Hallmarks: Under the base: MO: I and C separated by an ermine. Rennes community hallmark: lette K décembre 1712-1714 - charge de Rennes :9 fleuronné On the edge of the base: discharge: open crown (which differs from that reproduced in works devoted to haute Bretagne silversmiths) and lion's head in a shield.
