Description

Félix LECOMTE (1737-1817), in the taste of RARE PAIR OF VASES In terra cotta, decorated in low relief with a Bacchanalian procession, surmounted by foliage, on a square base. Height: 41 cm Please note. This pair of vases is perfectly representative of the taste for antiquity that was constantly developing in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, under the influence, in particular, of the Comte de Caylus. The distribution of numerous models inspired the great sculptors of the period, such as Clodion and Boizot. These artists drew their inspiration directly from the reliefs adorning ancient sarcophagi, in particular the iconography associated with Vesta and her Bacchic procession.
