Pascal DAGNAN-BOUVERET (Paris 1852-1929 Quincey) Portrait of a young Breton woman in traditional headdress Oil on canvas 41.5 x 33.5 cm Signed lower left To be compared with other works by the artist, who had a sincere and deep interest in folk costumes, particularly Breton ones, as in "Les Bretonnes" (1887, Christie's New-York sale, May 6, 1998, lot 119, present location unknown); "Bretonne au Pardon" (1888, Christie's New-York sale, October 26, 1988, lot 63, current location unknown); or "Jeune bretonne" (Sotheby's New-York sale, April 18, 2018, lot 40, current location unknown). Provenance: - According to family oral tradition, given by the artist to friends, Mr. and Mrs. Robert de Greff, in the early 20th century, - Then by descent and inheritance to the present day.
