Seah Kim Joo (Singapore b. 1939) Two of a kind, 1966 Batik, signed at lower right, framed. depicting two female figures riding on their buffalos Size.86.5x59cm NOTE Seah Kim Joo, born in Singapore in 1939, is a renowned second-generation artist. Raised in Terengganu, he was introduced to traditional batik making, which became his signature medium for depicting scenes of Singapore. In 1959, Seah attended the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and later served as the vice-chairman of its Alumni Association. As a representative of the second generation of Singaporean artists, Seah expands the creative boundaries of the established Nanyang style by incorporating unconventional mediums like batik.
