*A CARVING STANDING FIGUE OF LAKSHMI India, early 20th century Finely carved in openwork the goddess of Hindu standing on a lotus throne, her four hands, which represent the four aims or goals of human life in Hinduism holding flowers. With a wood stand. H. 14.7cm Provenance: A private Irish lady's collection. NOTE Lakshmi is a Hindu goddess of wealth, fortune, and prosperity. She is the wife and shakti (energy) of Vishnu, one of the principal deities of Hinduism. Lakshmi is also worshipped as the embodiment of beauty, grace, and charm.
