Description
A SMALL SOAPSTONE SEAL 20世紀初，1912？ 壽山石卧獅鈕 '壬子春，北楼，一仰桂月夜尋僧'小章 China, early 20th century, probably 1912 surmounted by a recumbent mythical beast with finely detailed face, eyes, back and tail. The seal face is carved in negative with ‘yi yang gui yue ye xun seng’ (Seeking a monk under the moonlit osmanthus tree) inscription; the seal side is carved with ‘Bei Long, Ren Zi Chun’ (building north, spring of the year of Renzi). The stone is of a maroon caramel colour with some russet mottling. Seal size: 2.4 x 2.4cm
