George GREENOUGH (Born 1941) Surf mat and fins Rare personal copy by George Greenough. (Certificate of authenticity issued by George GREENOUGH). Signatures on surf mat and fins. A native of Montecito, California, George Greenough, also known as the "Barefoot Genius", was one of the pioneers of on-board photography in Hollywood surf films. He practiced kneeboarding and mat surfing, and in the early '60s designed a fin inspired by the tail of a yellowfin tuna, with a narrow base and a long, tapering appendage. Greenough's interest in film led to the creation of the first watertight housings to bring back images from inside the tube for his film The Innermost Limits of Pure Fun (1970). He also collaborated with Pink Floyd on their short film Echoes crystal voyager" in 1972. Today, he is based in Byron Bay, and continues to practice Mat surfing, which he believes offers unrivalled gliding sensations. This equipment is an innovative and personal creation by George GREENOUGH, never manufactured and never marketed. Condition: 7/10
