Paris, Lecointe et Pougin, Gouget, 1834. 2 volumes. 24.5 by 34.5 cm. 129 leaves, and 123 fables; 127 leaves, including 116 fables (some fables are more than one page long). Contemporary fir-green half-chagrin, 5-rib spine, ornate bindings. Worn edges, hinges split over 5 cm on the spine of volume 1 (without affecting the solidity of the work. Of the total number of leaves, 20 are relatively wet or brown. Some leaves slightly foxed. A corner tear with paper loss, with no missing text, a marginal tear with no missing text. Despite all these defects, a pleasant copy. A very fine edition, entirely engraved on copper, with the text in 2 columns. Each fable is adorned with a fine mid-page engraving after Werner, all set within a double black fillet. A very fine illustration of these fables, with a style that is sometimes naïve, but always very aesthetic.
