LARGE BALUSTER VASE MODEL 8627 Green-painted cast-iron, body and neck adorned with gadroons alternating with stings, on pedestal and square base. c. 1840-1844. Founded in 1823 in Pocé-sur-Cisse, Toraine, the Ducel foundry was run by three generations of the family, Jacques, Jean-Jacques (1801-1877) and Jacques-Gustave. Exporting its production all over the world, it was one of the largest in France, with over 400 workers. The company had a sales outlet in Paris at 22, rue des Quatre-Fils, then at 26, boulevard Poissonnière. In 1878, it was bought out by its main competitor, the Val d'Osne foundry. This vase was made before the takeover.
