A SET OF 9 VOLUMES in red morocco, ornate ribbed spine, triple gilt fillet, inner denture, gilt edges (Hardy). Portraits of Henri III and Henri IV on the frontispiece of each first volume, 3 hors-texte engravings. This edition, given by Lenglet du Fresnoy and containing notes by Le Duchat, is the most highly regarded early edition of this famous text. It includes reprints of many curious and very rare pieces, including the Tragédie de feu Gaspard de Colligny, the Discours merveilleux de Catherine de Médicis, the numerous "Preuves" du Journal, l'Isle des Hermaphrodites, les Amours du grand Alcandre, etc. (Brunet III, 1018; Graesse IV, 180.) Spines slightly sunned, a few fine scratches or light rubbing, otherwise a very fine, complete copy, perfectly established by Hardy.
