Pieter Gerardus van Os (1776 The Hague - 1839 ibid.) Dutch river landscape with farmstead and shepherds near 's-Graveland Finely painted, atmospheric, summery, cheerful landscape by the artist. Van Os was the son of the flower painter Jan van Os; he studied under his father and attended the Tekenakademie in The Hague from 1794 to 1795. Around 1805 he began to specialize in landscapes, which he often enlivened with grazing animals. From 1810-1819 van Os lived and worked in the village of 's-Graveland in North Holland. At the same time as the present work, he painted two larger landscape vedutas of 's-Graveland in 1817/18, which are now in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
