Artist information: Austrian animal painter, illustrator and graphic artist (1890 Moravian Kromau [Moravský Krumlov] to 1955 Vienna), childhood in Miroslav [German: Misslitz], grammar school attendance in Brno [Brünn], artistically educated in Munich and Vienna, studied at the Vienna Lyceum around 1910, undertook numerous study trips, e.g. to the Carpathians, the visits to the Carpathian Mountains and the Vienna University of Fine Arts. to the Carpathians, the Beskids, the Bohemian Forest, Switzerland and Italy, created numerous illustrated articles for German and Austrian hunting magazines, member of the association of Penzing and Hietzing artists "Lukas-Gilde", received various honours such as the Great Silver Medal at the International Hunting Exhibition in Berlin in 1937, worked in Vienna with stays in Feldkirch/Vorarlberg and Reichenau an der Maltsch, source: Vollmer, Saur "Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon", Fuchs, Österreichisches Künstlerlexikon and Wien-Geschichte-Wiki.

Daniel Israel, Oriental Woman Half-length portrait of a young dark-haired lady with fez in an oriental ambience, slightly impasto, partially glazed painting, oil on card, c. 1890, signed in ligature lower right and inscribed "DIsrael München", on the reverse remains of an old label and number "87-39" as well as an auction label of the Dorotheum Vienna with information on provenance, framed behind glass with brass plate "Daniel Israel 1859-1901" in a splendid, partially punched gilt stucco frame (min. def.), folded dimensions approx. 20.5 x 13 cm. Artist info: Austrian painter and orientalist (1859 Vienna - 1901 Vienna), belonged to the group of "Munich fine and small painters", son of Hungarian Jews, initially trained as a businessman in Vienna, studied at the Vienna Academy 1878-82, 1882-85 studied at the Munich Academy under Johann Caspar Herterich and Otto Seitz, travelled to the Orient in 1885, which took him to Bosnia, Turkey (Constantinople), the "Holy Land", Palestine and Egypt, from the sketches and studies he made there he later created detailed genre paintings in his studio, in 1893-99 he exhibited at the Munich Glaspalast as well as in Vienna and Budapest, active in Munich, source: Thieme-Becker, Saur "Bio-Bibliographisches Künstlerlexikon", Matrikel der Münchner Akademie, ÖBL, Müller-Singer, Fuchs, Bruckmann "Münchner Maler des 19./20th century" and Wikipedia.

Desiré Thomassin, Alpenländische Dorfimpression in a summery alpine village, a horse-drawn carriage stops in front of an inn with gentlemen drinking outdoors, on the left a woman is doing laundry at the fountain, in the background an imposing mountain panorama above a characteristic church tower, on the street chickens and geese, fine, detailed painting in friendly colours, oil on wood, around 1920, signed lower left "D. Thomassin" and inscribed "München", on the reverse of the painting support a fragment of a stamp, probably from the frame shop "A Hartmann", and on the frame a fragment of a Munich gallery or exhibition label from 1929, minor marginal defects due to framing, partially gilded, more recent magnificent frame and behind glass, folded dimensions approx. 18 x 27 cm. Artist information: actually Désiré Thomassin, published his paintings under the pseudonym: "Th. Renardt", Austrian painter and composer (1858 Vienna - 1933 Munich), studied 1877-81 at the royal music school in Munich under Josef Gabriel Rheinberger and Max Hieber, then worked as a music teacher, from 1883 onwards as a painter and composer. From 1883, encouraged by Wilhelm von Diez, turned to painting, worked for the Munich art dealer Jakob Anger and adopted the pseudonym "Th. Renardt", member of the Reich Association of Fine Artists Berlin, active in Munich, source: Vollmer, Dressler and Internet.
