Munkacsy, Mihaly von (Michael Lieb) (1844 Munkäcs - Endenich b. Bonn 1909) attributed to: Evening landscape with a cheerful hiker on the path. Oil on canvas, mounted on wooden panel. 49 x 40 cm. Signed lower left. "Munkacsy" (indistinct) lower left. Framed. As one of the most important Hungarian painters, Munkacsy was active in Paris, Munich and Düsseldorf, among other places. - Some craquelure. - Estimated by Sotheby's in 2003 at GBP 10,000-15,000.

Michael Borbély, Pferdekutsche im Pusztadorf atmospheric, snow-covered Hungarian village landscape with a horse-drawn carriage on a country road, in the light of the late winter sun, impasto painting, partially in spatula technique, oil on canvas, signed and dated "M. Borbély [19]65" on the lower right, stamped "... Viktoria Malleinen", on the stretcher partly illegible stamp "... Herrsching bei München", on the reverse of the frame label "Goldleistenfabrik H. Sch. ...", annotation "... Borbély" and stamped "Gemälde Friedrich Kunsthandlung 78 Freiburg i. Br. [Breisgau], Friedrichring 27 ...", somewhat in need of cleaning, originally framed in stucco frame, folded dimensions approx. 60.5 x 80.5 cm. Artist information: also Mihaly Borbely, German-HungarianHungarian animal, genre and portrait painter (1922 small town in Hungary until 2003 Murrhardt-Waltersberg), childhood in Transylvania in Hungary, 1939 brief move to Cluj-Napoca in Romania, from 1939 in Stuttgart, where he studied at the art academy on the Killesberg. Gyula Aggházy, Girl at the Summer Poppy Bed A midsummer day at the lake, a girl, collecting flowers for a bouquet, walks along a field path past an imposing bed of tall flowering poppies, Impressionist brushstroke, skilfully capturing the summer mood in a friendly colour scheme, Aggházy places the painterly focus on the flowers and leaves of the poppies, which he places impasto and with a pointed brush over an otherwise glazed ground, oil on canvas, around 1900, signed lower right "Aggházy Gy.", on the reverse of the canvas with probably official Hungarian export stamp, on the stretcher old exhibition label from 1922, old restoration, in beautiful gilded moulding, folded dimensions approx. 25.5 x 38.5 cm. Artist information: Hungarian genre painter and art teacher (1850 Dombóvár to 1919 Budapest), attended the academies of fine arts in Vienna and Munich from 1869 to 1874, shortly afterwards moved to Paris, where he studied under Mihály Munkácsy, from 1876 at the artists' colony in Szolnok and in Budapest, there teacher at the Hungarian Royal National School of Arts and Crafts, 1897 professor at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, famous and sought-after for his genre scenes in the naturalistic style, represented with numerous works in the Hungarian National Gallery, source: Benezit and Internet.
