Adolph Thywissen, Stadtansicht Aachen mit dem Dom Blick über die Dächer der Altstadt vor der Silhouette des Aachener Doms, mixed media (watercolour over pencil) on paper, signed and dated "Adolf Thywissen 1939" lower left, yellowed, faded and slightly stained, framed behind glass, folded dimensions approx. 62 x 46 cm. Artist information: actually Adolph Aloys Thywissen, also Adolf Alois Thywissen, called himself "Adolf Thywissen Junior" to distinguish himself from his father, German painter (1870 Burtscheid). Painter (1870 Burtscheid/Aachen to 1949 Bad Brückenau), son of the Aachen cloth manufacturer Adolph Christian Thywissen, studied 1893-94 at the Düsseldorf academy under Heinrich Lauenstein and Adolf Schill, further training from 1901 at the Munich academy under Karl von Marr, undertook various study trips including to Blankenberghe, Capri and Mallorca, active in Aachen, later probably active in Cologne-Sülz, source: Dressler 1930, Kunstadressbuch für das Deutsche Reich 1926, student lists of the Düsseldorf Academy, matriculation register of the Munich Academy and family tree on the Internet.
