Tempera in colors and gold over chalk ground on wooden panel, Russia 19th/20th century Approx. 42 x 31 cm. Without reverse ponki, panel somewhat curved. Depicting the reclining Mother of God, behind her Christ descending from heaven with the child dressed in the white of innocence in her arms, embodying the soul of Mary. At the sides 14 saints and apostles, at the bottom front the Hebrew Jechoniak, whose hands were cut off by the archangel Gabriel because he tried to overthrow the bier. - Some color chipping, rubbing and bumping, lower right corner with chipping, sides and back with numerous wormholes.
