Hackbarth was a German painter of fantastic realism, first a jazz musician, then a painter. In 1945, shortly before the end of the war, he fled from Pomerania to the West. From 1949 to 1957, he worked extremely successfully as a jazz drummer in Wolfgang Lauth's group.
