Description

Frey-Moock, Adolf

(1882 Jona - probably Steinebrunn 1954) Copy after. Salome. Dance of Salome. Female nude with splendid hair and arm ornaments. Anonymous oil on canvas mounted on hardboard, probably 1st quarter 20th century. 69 x 42.5 cm. Verso inscribed "von Pelard gemalt nach dem Gemälde von Fr. v. Stuck". Fry-Moock created an independent work reminiscent of Franz von Stuck's Salome; Stuck's Salome wears a skirt, whereas in Frey-Moock's work she is undressed and the arm positions vary. We were unable to ascertain whether "Pelard" is Hans Pellar (1886-1971), who was a master student of F. von Stuck, as was assumed at the Mehlis auction house on 24-26 May 2012. - Probably cut on the right and two inserted additions at the height of the head of a henchman and the tray with the head of John as seen in the painting by Frey-Moock, which was auctioned by Quittenbaum on 27.05.2020. - Enclosed: From Stuck. 6 posters. (Cologne, Taschen ca. 1994). 43.5 x 31 cm. With 6 col. Loose in ocart. folder. D
