Heinrich Breling (1849 Burgdorf - 1924 Fischerhude) Cavalry at rest A finely painted, characteristic genre painting from Breling's early oeuvre, characterized by virtuously depicted motifs from folk and soldier life during the Thirty Years' War. The artist of the Munich School studied at the academy there under Wilhelm Diez and worked as court painter to Ludwig II of Bavaria from 1884. He settled in Fischerhude in 1892, founded the artists' colony there and turned to Impressionism. Oil/mahogany panel. Signed and dated lower right. 1878. 20.8 cm x 27 cm. Frame.
