of a naval officer of the gunboat SMS Luchs, with 101 partly private photographs (22 with imprinted title), mounted on the album boards. Dimensions approx. 8.5 x 10.2 to 11.7 x 17 cm. 4°. 25 boards. Loaded Japanese. Lacquer album of the period, the covers painted, the front cover with 2 small inlaid bone carvings. (Spine only fragmentary preserved). The album documents the voyage of the gunboat to East Asia from the departure from Bremerhaven (July 1900) via Port-Said, the Suez Canal to Ceylon and via Singapore to Hong Kong, various facilities on board (engineer, the conamdant in the saloon, the commander's study), activities and events such as gun cleaning, birthday party on board, the band, visit of the vice-king, boat maneuvers on the Yang-tse-kiang, birthday party and Christmas party in the deck office. Christmas party in the deck officer's mess, breakfast after taking over the coal, stone carving merchants on board, German station in Taku, 37 photographs with views of Shanghai, 10 photographs of Chinese women and laced feet, Chinese tombstones and boundary stones etc..., mostly with hs. Inscription on the card. - Partly stained, some images somewhat faded. D
