Silbermann Military parade, infantrymen Silbermann, Strasbourg, circa 1860 Parade militaire, fantassins (Silbermann, Strasbourg, circa 1860). One hundred and fifty color lithographed figures, heightened with gold and silver, cut to shape, each with a small wooden pedestal glued to the reverse at the base so that they can be erected in a vertical position. 10 to 12 cm high. Henri-Rodolphe-Gustave Silbermann (1801-1876) was a printer and publisher in Strasbourg. He had invented a new color printing process (known as "en couleurs à l'huile") recognized by the entire profession, which gave an extraordinary rendering of color akin to stencil techniques. The great French publishers used his services, in particular Jules Hetzel, for whom he printed the plates of the "Albums Stahl" in color. After the defeat at Sedan, he went into exile in Paris. The set assembled here is exceptional, even if not all the soldiers come from the same series (small differences in size): musicians, riflemen, spahis, sappers...

MIKLOS (Gustave). Binding project for the book "Contes Apaches" by Dr. Edmond Locard. n. d. (circa 1928-1930). Gouache, gold and silver on paper, signed, matted. Size: 26.6 x 18.8 cm (drawing), 43.5 x 32 cm (exterior). Handwritten note on verso: "Project for the binding of Dr. Locard's book Contes Apaches". Project featured in Danuta Cichocka's catalog: Gustave Miklos un grand œuvre caché, vol. 1: books, bindings, graphics. Paris, Fata Libelli, 2013 (no. 21, p. 164). Hungarian-born sculptor, painter, illustrator and decorator Gustave MIKLOS (1888-1967) collaborated anonymously with engraver and publisher François-Louis SCHMIED(1873-1941) to create sumptuous Art Deco editions. A father of criminology and writer, Edmond LOCARD founded the first forensic laboratory in 1910. "Contes apaches" was published in Lyon in 1933 by Editions Lugdunum.
