Description

Schönlein, Johann Lukas,

Physician, professor in Würzburg, Zurich and Berlin, personal physician to King Friedrich Wilhelm IV (1793-1864). 3 family letters from Würzburg to his wife Therese, née Heffner, dat. March 22, 1825, June 9/10, 1834 and May 12, 1835. 8°. - 4°. 6 fol., 8 pp. inscr. Several folded letters of 1825 and 1835 from her mother, the first to Munich, the other to Zurich. Schömlein lost his academic posts in Würzburg in the fall of 1832 as part of the persecution of demagogues after the Hambach Festival and fled from the persecution of the Bavarian government to Switzerland, where he accepted an appointment as professor of clinical medicine and head of the hospital at the newly founded University of Zurich. His patients there included the French Emperor Napoleon III and Georg Büchner. - The 3rd letter is probably from a brother who reports, among other things, that the parcel with 101 Louis d'or arrived at his address and was immediately delivered to his mother. Further about Esterhazian bonds, about swindlers etc. R
