Canale,A. (gen. Canaletto, 1697 - 1768, Venedig). Prospects of the great Canal of Venice Shewing the several Palaces & other Buildings both publick & private from one end of the Canal to the other neatly Engraved after the Paintings made on the spot by Antonio Canale - Attached (Ders. A new Collection of Celebrated Prospects in Venice. Consisting chiefly of such views and edifices as are not situated on the Bank of the Canals). Ldn., Bowles (c. 1745). Qu.cl.fol. With rad. Title page and 26 etchings, (2-15, 1-12) of which 13 after Canale, engraved by J. Lereau. Hldr. of the 19th century (somewhat rubbed). This work is based on the Prospectus Magni Canalis Venetiarum published in Venice in 1735 by Pasquali (for Consul Smith), which contained fourteen views drawn and engraved by A. Visentini after paintings by Canaletto. (This work was published in an extended edition in 1742). - Right corner of rad. Title page with small loss and crease. (no loss of image). - Plate 1 of the first series probably missing. Rare. This work is based on the Prospectus Magni Canalis Venetiarum published in Venice in 1735 by Pasquali (for Consul Smith), which contained fourteen views drawn and engraved by A.
