Paris, Charles Gosselin, 1840. One volume. 10.5 by 17.5 cm. XXII-(2)-444 pages. Contemporary red half-chagrin, smooth spine (with false nerves) decorated with fleurons. Minor rubbing to binding, rare interior foxing. Translation and important introduction by Gérard de NERVAL. The translation of the second Faust and some of the German poems are here in the French Original Edition.

Amsterdam, Henry Wetstein, 1684. 1 volume. 9 by 15 cm. (32)-254 pages. Contemporary full calf, 5-rib spine, amaranth title-piece. Binding in small condition, with numerous small defects. Some foxing in the text. Second edition of Amelot de la Houssaye's translation (EO 1683). It was this translation that made Machiavelli's work known in France. Attractive frontispiece portrait.

[Manuscript] Letter from Cardinal Jacques Davy du Perron to Henri IV, April 5, 1607. Manuscript of 8p in-4, in Italian. Amazing period translation of the letter sent by Cardinal du Perron to Henri IV, now preserved at the BnF (BnF ms. fr. 18002 f° 92-99 v°). This letter is of key importance in the history of Henri IV's negotiations with the Papacy. In it, the Cardinal announces to the King that he had succeeded in rallying Paul V to the Cardinal de Joyeuse's views, and in getting him to abandon the Jesuit cause to allow his reconciliation with the Serenissima. Unfortunately, we do not know why this Italian translation was produced, or to whom it belonged. A work of verse.
