Contemporary full tortoiseshell calf, ornate smooth spine, black title-piece, red lettering, speckled edges. Minor flaws on 4 headpieces, a few dull corners, some light spotting, otherwise good condition of binding. 8 engravings have more or less pronounced foxing (a defect found in most copies). It is illustrated with 99 plates (including 3 fold-outs), almost all of them enhanced with color, plus an unnumbered two-sided alphabet plate (complete). Each volume contains a price list of the apparatus required for the experiments described, which were sold by the author. Enlarged second edition of this collection of scientific games, tricks and experiments, "infinitely more complete than any that have appeared since" (Caillet, no. 4900).
