Artist info: German geographer and landscape draughtsman (1831 Dorum to 1903 Klotzsche), 1850-54 studied theology and then history, geography and classical philosophy in Göttingen and Halle/Saale, 1859 moved to Dresden, 1863 founded the Verein für Erdkunde zu Dresden together with Karl Andree, 1864 doctorate at the University of Leipzig, from 1874 professor of geography and ethnography in Dresden, travelled with Ludwig Richter to Saxon Switzerland and the Bohemian Forest, source: New German Biographies and Wikipedia.

In-8, [4]-139 pp. in tan calf, smooth ornate spine, long title page in red marble, triple gilt fillet framing the covers with small fleurons in spandrels, gilt edges (period binding). Covers and corners worn, rubbed and worn. First edition of this apocryphal work published under Helvétius' name after his death, in which the author discusses the universe, man, the true philosopher, and the existence of a "Supreme Intelligence" - in contrast to Helvétius' atheism. Divine, M. S. D.,” one page, 8.5 x 11, The U. S. A. Northeastern Churches and Connections Under the Peace Mission Movement letterhead, March 25, 1948. Letter to Kenneth E. Crouch, in full: “I AM writing to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 6th and the enclosure for MY attention. I do not as a rule conform to the policy of men in signing autographs, for the Supreme Work of MY Mission is dedicated to changing the hearts and minds of the children of men, that they may no longer be bound to the corruptible versions and tendencies of men, but that they may get a new mental and Spiritual birth of freedom under God. It is for this cause that I would that MY Nature and MY Characteristics may be imprinted in the soil of the souls of the people, for as they get MY Likeness mentally and Spiritually, then will they materialize that which they subconsciously gaze upon, becoming to be as this leaves ME, as I All Well, Healthy, Joyful, Peaceful, Lively, Loving, Successful, Prosperous and Happy in Spirit, Body and Mind and in every organ, muscle, sinew, joint, limb, vein and bone and even in every ATOM, fibre and cell of MY BODILY FORM.” In fine condition, with a few faint stains.

Massachusetts Ratifying Convention: The Connecticut Courant from March 10, 1788 Complete issue of The Connecticut Courant, and the Weekly Intelligencer, from Monday, March 10, 1788, four pages, 10.25 x 16.25, printed by Hudson and Goodwin of Hartford, with the front page featuring a lead article entitled “Proceedings of the Convention of Massachusetts (Continued from our last),” which contains the latest developments of the Massachusetts Ratifying Convention that met in Boston from January 9, 1788, to February 5, 1788, to discuss ‘the adoption of the federal Constitution.’ On the documented day, January 22, 1788, delegates were occupied with Article I, Section 8, which sets out the bulk of Congress’s enumerated legislative authorities. The section was supported by notable figures such as Judge Increase Sumner, Nathaniel Gorham, Christopher Gore, William Phillips, and James Bowdoin, but was criticized by Samuel Willard who quoted “ancient history” to demonstrate how power corrupted the best of men. Additionally, Benjamin Randall and William Symmes ‘feared a consolidation’ and an abuse of delegated power. The reverse of the last page bears an affixed two-page supplement containing a variety of advertisements. In fine condition.
