With 74 gallant drypoint etchings by Marcel Vertès, 30 of them on plates, as well as a second set on laid paper with remarques and an additional 15 "Planches refusées", also two pen and ink drawings, one of which is signed. 489 S. - Bound: Au pays du roi Pausole. 15 cuivres gravés par un artiste inconnu de la suite du roi. O.O., Tryphème 1930. series of 15 anonymous drypoint etchings. I: Blue marocco with gilt title, some gilt on standing edges, mirror with embedded moiré silk, surrounded by a wide blue ldr. border with colorful ornaments (fruits on branches) as well as a gilt crown and gilt three leaves. Crown and gilt triple lines, red moire silk endpapers, gilt edges, sign. Ch.Septier. II: Same blue hardcover with gilt title on spine and wide leather corners, blue colored paper covers and endpapers, gilt headpieces, each in a cardboard slipcase. Vollmer V, 27 - One of 99 copies, printed on Velin d'Arches. - Additionally included are 2 (one signed in the first volume and one unsigned in the second volume) pen and ink drawings with illustrations not found in the engravings. - Cf. Bilder-Lex. II, 880: "Vertès is an extremely, conscientious artist... His main strength lies in the concise characterization of the persons depicted. With a few, economical strokes he always captures the essentials. Even when he depicts crude erotic situations, he is always full of spirit and wit". - The 15 plates "by an unknown artist" attached to the separate series in volume 2 are probably also by Vertès, but they are somewhat freer. They were only published in 25 copies. - Splendid copy.
