Contemporary full glazed calf, ornate smooth spine, ochre title-piece, black calligraphy, filleted edges. One cut worn for 1 cm (not serious), two small wormholes on the binding, one corner restored with discretion. Paper sometimes slightly browned, a few scattered freckles. Charming edition with naïve yet cruel illustrations, in a very decent copy.

Full contemporary calf, spine with 5 ornate bands, red title-pieces, roulette on the edges. Two small bumps on the boards, one very small crack on a spine, otherwise a very fine copy. Very good condition inside. First edition. An engraved portrait by P. E. Moitte adorns the frontispiece. "The manuscript of the memoirs of Marshal de Vielleville (1509-1571) was discovered by the Jesuit Henri Griffet in the archives of the Château de Durtal and published under the name of Vincent Carloix, the Marshal's secretary. However, the true author of these memoirs is an anonymous and well-informed 18th-century compiler."
