Ackermann, [1823]. 2 volumes in 1 vol. in-12 (14 x 8.5 cm) of XII-161 pp., 1 f. n. ch., 200 pp. in brown long-grain half-maroquin with corners, smooth spine adorned with romantic cold decoration and gilt fillets and small circles, gilt edges (period binding). First edition of this work on the Austrian Empire in the series The world in miniature, published from 1821 to 1828 by the German-born publisher Rodolphe Ackermann (1764-1834), who was one of the first to popularize lithographic printing. The illustration consists of 32 lithographed and colored figures. The table of the 3 volumes on Persia in the same collection has been added after that of this title in t. 1. "Ces petits ouvrages ont beaucoup d'analogie avec ceux publiés en France par l'éditeur Nepveu" (Colas). Slightly rubbed, traces of purple re-staining on boards, small marginal tear with lack not affecting text on p. 157 of t. 1, small marginal stain on p. 54 of t. 2 and on facing plate, and small light ring in upper margin of 20 ff. in t. 2 otherwise a very good copy in contemporary binding.
