(Berlin, Sala ca. 1889). 30.5 x 37.5 cm. 22 color lithographic plates mounted together on 2 rollers in a display case, so that they become visible by turning a small wooden crank in a passe-partout. Original wooden theater box with two-part roof made of cardboard as well as 2 sep. side parts that can be set up and decorative color lithograph illustrations in original cardboard box with color lithograph cover picture. Catalog of the Deutsche Lehrmittelanstalt Klodt, Frankfurt 1892/93, no. 511 (with illus.). - Very rare decorative paper theater. - The plates show: Closed stage curtain, Spanish harbor, embarkation, ship at sea, storm in sight, thunderstorm at sea, rescue attempts, a wreck, Port Said, Cairo, caravanserai, caravan in the desert (2 plates), the Samum, harassed caravan, lion, attacking giraffes, desert area, ostrich hunt, sunset, dusk, night camp, dawn, crocodile hunt, arrival at Muselmänner. - The cover illustration and 3 plates are monogrammed with "F. K.", which could be the Berlin-based watercolor painter Friedrich Kaiser (1815-1890), who illustrated the children's book "Aus Nord und Süd" published in 1874. - "A. Sala was one of the most versatile Berlin luxury paper manufacturers..." (C. Pieske in Die große Welt in kleinen Bildern, Bln. 1999, p. 129 f.). - Cassette with traces of age and use, the color lithographed stage parts carefully laminated with transparent film, the first picture with the stage curtain with a small hole, a few scenery pictures with creases, multi-page German-language instructions enclosed in photocopy, otherwise very good condition.
