Sängerin, Die. The Singer. La Cantatrice. (Germany, around 1850). Hand-colored, lithographed female figure in full length and 8 cut-out costumes with 4 small hats. Loose in original cardboard box with illustr. lithogr. and handcol. Title showing Jenny Lind in three different roles. Showing Jenny Lind in three different roles. Buijnster, Papertoys p. 333 and illustration on p. 213. - The doll is an embodiment of Jenny Lind (1820-1887), a Swedish opera singer who was often called the "Swedish nightingale". One of the most respected singers of the 19th century, she sang soprano roles in operas in Sweden and throughout Europe and undertook an extraordinarily popular concert tour of the United States from 1850. From 1840 she was a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. - Hand-colored and lithographed full-length cut-out female figurine, and 8 cut-out costumes with 4 small hats.
