The first, Bedouck ou le Talisman de Balzac, is printed on rose geranium paper. This edition is announced as 50 copies (out of 1575), but ours is justified by Bouteron as "exemplaire spécial de Madame J Gabalda". The second copy, Bettina ou le culte de Balzac, is one of 1,500 on arches and has a slipcase printed like the cover. Attached is a L.A.S. from Bouteron to a friend to whom he sent the proofs of the 5th cahier balzacien and the 2nd issue of Balzaciana (letter on pink paper). A very good copy, with foxing to the slipcase. Honoré de Balzac, Balzac and Souverain an unpublished correspondence edited by Walter Scott Hastings. New York, Doubleday, Page & Company, 1927. In-8, [8]-90p. Fine edition of the correspondence, published in French, with English commentary. More of a biography, based on the letters between Balzac and Souverain. First edition, one of the copies on Sorel Moussel paper (n°797) enriched with a beautiful letter to Alice Vigineix, "in memory of her grandfather M. Guillaume Vigineix, the learned botanist correspondent of Balzac, de Balzac des Ananas". Copy enriched with a small plate announcing the publication of the book (22*30cm). Half red long-grained morocco with corners, ornate smooth spine, title-pieces, gilt-edged head, covers and spine preserved. Small cracks at ends of spines. An attractive copy.
