Alexandre LEONARD (Paris, 1821 - 1877) "Wounded Bittern", 1867. Patinated bronze signed on the terrace, resting on a molded brass base. Height : 38 cm. Length : 60 cm. Width: 32.5 cm (verdigris on the right wing). This subject, a true feat of sculpture and casting, was presented at the 1867 Salon. A pupil of Barye and Rouillard, Léonard exhibited at the Salon between 1861 and 1873, working exclusively on animal bronzes.
