[Brittany] - GILBERT DU MOTIER, MARQUIS DE LA FAYETTE (1757-1834) Collation of procès-verbal de vente de biens confisqués d'émigré sur le marquis de La Fayette, 2 mai 1795 (13 floréal an III), concerning a piece of land named Pratanpont Hallec in Coadout (Côtes d'Armor) acquired for 2025 livres by Jean Simon of Ploumagoar and Jean Jégou of Bourbriac, 4 pages in-fol. Through his mother, Marie-Louise de la Rivière, La Fayette was of old Breton ancestry. The de La Rivière family, nobles of ancient Breton extraction since the 13th century, had extensive holdings in Brittany, including the seigneuries of Pontblanc en Plouaret, du Dresnay en Loguivy-Plougras, Saint-Michel de Guingamp, Kerauffret en Bourbriac and Saint-Quilhouët en Plaintel. On the death of his maternal grandfather in 1770, Joseph-Yves-Thibaut-Hyacinthe, Marquis de La Rivière, La Fayette became sole heir to his estate. On August 19, 1792, he was declared a "Traitor to the Nation" and took refuge in Liège. His lands in Brittany and Auvergne were confiscated by the French government. He was freed in 1797 by Bonaparte.
