Japanese Meiji period box, early 19th century. Hand painted papier mache. The key is missing. It presents marks of use, wear and some faults. Measurements: 10 x 26 x 16 cm. Japanese box of prismatic format embellished with cut scenes of great detail. The special care of the craftsman in the treatment of the faces and clothes of the palace characters stands out. The Meiji era (an era of Japanese history that lasted from October 23, 1868 to 1912. It was the first half of the Empire of Japan, when the Japanese people went from being a feudal society to a modern, industrialized nation-state and an emerging great power, influenced by the West.
