Amsterdam, Paris : Gueffier, 1780 - 3 works in one volume in-8, marbled calf, spine ribbed and decorated, red edges (period binding). Bengesco, 1862 (Commentary), 1873 (Dialogues d'Evhémère, 1777 ed.). First edition of the Commentaire historique sur les œuvres de l'auteur de la Henriade, an apology composed by Voltaire himself and published anonymously. Les Dialogues d'Evhémère contains a philosophical dialogue by Voltaire. The original appeared in 1777. The third work, anonymous, is in its original edition. In the form of a poem, the author imagines Voltaire commenting on all the works composed in his honor. A copy from the library of Mme Colin de Saint Marc (1758-1836) in Coulommiers, a wealthy dowager affiliated with the Montesquiou family and first cousin of Antoine-Fare Huvier, captain of the Pont Royal and chevalier de Saint-Louis. Provenance: Mme Colin de Saint Marc, with bookplate. (the lower cover is missing, some wear and tear).

66 volumes in 8vo. 202x125 mm. Quarter leather binding and marbled cardboard, gilt titles and gilt rules and blind tooled spines, red edges. Portrait of the Author in the first volume, drawn and engraved by Saint-Aubin, many plates engraved in copper by Moreau the Younger. Ex libris 'Feodorovna' engraved on copper, glued on the inside covers. Occasional foxing, slight traces of wear, good condition. Renouard edition of Voltaire's complete works, richly illustrated. Specimen belonged to the last Empress of Russia, Alexandra Feodorovna. The ex-libris, surmounted by a crown with the initials AL underneath, bears the motto "naught but the highest shall content my soul" on one ribbon and the name "Féodorovna" on another ribbon. Below the image are the initials of the engraver W.P.B. (William Phillips Barrett) and the date 1904.Alexandra Feodorovna, 1872-1918, princess of the Grand Duchy of Hesse and by Rhine, favorite niece of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, married Tsar Nicholas II in 1895; she was she was shot, with the rest of her family, on July 17, 1918.It is the best collective edition of Voltaire published under the Restoration, and one of the few illustrated, from a suite of Moreau the Younger in the possession of Renouard, who made annotations and additions, many of which were communicated to him by M. Clogenson. Here appear for the first time "Les sentiments des Citoyens," articles supplied by Voltaire to the Gazette littéraire, etc.... The last two volumes contain an analytical table established by Miger.
