VAUX (Charles-Maurice de) Les Tireurs au pistolet Paris: C. Marpon, E. Flammarion, 1883. - Large in-8, blue half-maroquin with corners, ribbed spine, gilt head, untrimmed, cover preserved (E. Bonleu). First edition of 600 copies, prefaced by Guy de Maupassant and opening with a letter from Georges de Bibesco, to whom the work is dedicated. This is a collection of biographies of the best marksmen of the period, including Guy de Maupassant, the Comte de Lamberty, the Duc de Morny, Pertuiset, the Comte Potocki, Frédéric Régamey, Aurélien Scholl, the Marquis de Talleyrand-Périgord and others. There is one woman, Princess Marie Gihka. The illustrations include a number of head and foot plates, a frontispiece portrait of the author and 40 plates, almost all of which depict the personalities studied. These include a portrait of Pertuiset based on a drawing by Édouard Manet. Other artists include Georges Bellenger, Jeanniot, Félix Régamey, Stevens, Georges Rochegrosse and others.
