[PARIS] Le Rideau levé ou Coup d'oeil général sur les prisons de Paris, offrant un grand nombre d'anecdotes sur les prisonniers de toutes classes qui y ont été détenus depuis vingt ans [The Raised Curtain or a general look at the prisons of Paris, offering a large number of anecdotes about the prisoners of all classes who have been held there for twenty years Paris: Laurent-Beaupré, 1815. - In-16, havane calf, cold-stamped roulette and black fillet framing the boards, small gilt fleuron at the corners, ornate spine, inner gilt roulette, gilt edges (Thouvenin-jeune). First edition of this singular collection of anecdotes about Paris prisons, which remained anonymous. It is illustrated with a handsome engraved frontispiece. A precious copy bound in the period for Auguste-Simon-Louis Bérard (1783-1859), a member of the Société des Bibliophiles français, by Thouvenin jeune, enriched with the original signed drawing of the frontispiece. A note pasted on the first lining specifies that the copy was sold at the Bérard sale in 1829 for 26 francs to Simier. Provenance: Auguste-Simon-Louis Bérard (1829, no. 2056). - Simier.
